Floor total

Enter a length and width for at least one room.

Disclaimer: This page adds rectangles. It is a planning sketch for a whole house, not a listing measurement and not a flooring order. Use SqftKit when you need waste, tile counts, or carpet yards.

How to use the square footage calculator

  1. Each row is one rectangular room. Give it a name if you like, then enter its length and width in feet.
  2. Press Add room for more rows, or Remove to drop one.
  3. Optionally fill in the wall helper with a wall height and a perimeter to get a rough wall area for painting. It's shown separately and not added to the floor total.
  4. Press Calculate to see each room's area and the combined total.

How it's calculated

Room area = length × width
Total = sum of all room areas
Wall area ≈ wall height × perimeter

To convert the total, divide square feet by 10.764 for square meters, or by 9 for square yards (a common unit for carpet). For flooring, most installers suggest ordering 5–10% extra to allow for cuts and waste.

Worked example

A living room of 18 × 15 ft (270 sq ft), a bedroom of 12 × 11 ft (132 sq ft) and a kitchen of 12 × 10 ft (120 sq ft) add up to 522 sq ft. With 8 ft walls, the living room's 66 ft perimeter gives about 8 × 66 = 528 sq ft of wall to paint before subtracting doors and windows.
